The Zenz firm was founded in Essen in 1970 by Joachim Zenz and Friedrich Helber. The firm is still located in Essen, the European City of Culture 2010.

We are a firm of patent attorneys and attorneys at law, advising and representing clients in all aspects of intellectual property, as well as contract and licensing law. Our practice areas encompass all procedures relating to technical protective rights, trademarks and designs so that our clients' innovations can be fully safeguarded by industrial property rights whilst having regard to their economic objectives.

Our advice concerning technical protective rights covers a wide range of technical and scientific areas such as physics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, communications and semiconductor technology, information technology and chemistry. The focal points here are in particular the prosecution and handling of applications for intellectual property protection, representation and advice in connection with actions for infringement and actions for cancellation as well as the representation of appeals in national and European patent matters.

In the areas of trademark and design protection we support our clients through preparation of individually tailored applications for IP protection, the monitoring of registration procedures as well as the representation of oppositions in national, European and international trademark matters. The enforcement of trademark and design rights is also part of our service, as well as the application for, enforcement, defence and dispute of domain names.

Our clients include small and medium-sized businesses as well as global conglomerates, which we represent before the German Patent and Trademark Office, the German Federal Patent Court, the German civil courts and the Supreme Court, as well as before the European Patent Office, the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market and the World Intellectual Property Organization. The firm uses correspondence attorneys for foreign procedures, with whom we have long-standing relationships in many cases.
